Triglav is the highest peak in Slovenia, located in the heart of Triglav National Park. The ascent to this iconic peak is popular among hikers and climbers, but requires good preparation and planning.

Route and Starting Points: Our starting point was the last parking lot in the Zadnjica Valley, about 2 km from the village of Trenta (620 m). You can start the hike there, driving to the parking lot will save you about half an hour. At the first crossroads (1,007 m) we go left, towards the Luknja pass (1,758 m). From the pass, the secured "Bamberg-weg" trail follows the Plemenice ridge. From there it is still about 3:30 hours to the summit. The most common starting point for this ascent is the Aljažev dom hut (1,015 m). From there, the route follows the Tominšek-Weg or the variant through Prag to the Triglavski dom hut (2,515 m), and from there, in one hour, through the Little Triglav (2,739 m) to the summit.

Accommodation and Mountain Huts:

  • Aljažev dom (1,015 m): Popular starting point for the ascent to Triglav.
  • Triglavski dom (2,515 m): Located near the summit, an ideal place to spend the night before the final ascent.
  • Hut "Na Doliče" (2,151 m): An alternative option, but often full during the season, so it is important to book in advance.

Useful Tips:

  • During the season, there are many hikers on the trail, so it is advisable to book accommodation in the mountain huts in advance.
  • Several variants of the ascent to the summit follow secured (via ferrata) routes, so it is advisable to have the right equipment (harness, safety system, and helmet).
  • The ascent from Trenta is quite long, and in the summer months, it is essential not to underestimate the sufficient amount of water.
